With regard to the closeup, I put that in the readme mainly because I cut a lot of corners in certain areas... and while there's a ton of little features like the turrets, and the rows cardboard cutout raiders, I wasn't able to fix certain things. Areas like the connection between the spindle and the arms are pretty much unfixable since I froze the mesh much earlier on in the modeling process than I should have.

It's a learning process, and I'm still very much a hobbyist, so defects aside it was still one of the more complex meshes I'd worked on so I felt like sharing anyway.

And as I said, I'm glad to see someone actually putting it to use. 70 downloads and this is only the second render I've seen it in.

Well, I'm a hobbyist model user, building is still beyond me.
I plan to use it in a few more images, If my comp doesn't melt. lol

I'm slightly more google-able now [deactivated the last account, going to stick with this one], since at least if you search for this you'll get my youtube account.

I did a few background radiosity renders of the basestar and I realized the geometry isn't that bad, but the generic looking textures are what's letting it down. I'm probably going to make some major updates to the textures for the basestar at some unspecified point in the future.

This is amazing!!! Clearly you are getting much better keep it up! I need to start working in Terragen again..I've been working on my pencil drawings a lot recently.
