Another Stargate render from Atlantis. This is the beginning of an idea I have for an animation...

nice.

id expect some haze tho :P

water looks good but seems very reflective.

did you set this up in lightwave? how do you intend to animate the water?

For the water, I was going to try to use envelopes in the bump channel, but there is a point where I get the motion but the valleys and peaks flatten out, go the opposite way and then back to 0, and just doesn't look right. I put some fog in there, and I agree, just seems not enough. And the reflective water was I was going for an artsy image not photorealistic (at least not yet). In reality for that kind of reflection It would need to be almost totally calm.

oh i see its bump... well then DONT use the envelopes

instead parent the bump texture to a null and move that about in the anim, note that this method will look extreemly fake if not hidden well or only shown in small amounts, i used it myself on my 3d atlantis sequence on the water.

if you want to go as realistic as you can use a plane with 100 000 quad polys add a turbulent or crumple Displacement texture to it parent the texture to a Null and as you move the null the texture will move about and effect the displacement of the plane and simulate waves and wavyness that look REAL.

this adds rendertime tho not much but a tad.

if you want to learn more about it tell me when you are on Yahoo and ill teach you by explaining it and hooking you up with a rigged scene so you can grasp it.

thank you! The tones are not my creation, unfortunately, but my execution. The water was an experiment that sees to have worked though...Thanx again.
